"Everybody is Contemporary"

This background is a recreation of the American pigeon wallpaper Gertrude and Alice bought in New York and later used in Paris at 5 Rue Christine, about 1938. Because of the tiling effect, this pattern is slightly looser than the actual wallpaper. In May, 1946 Natalie Barney wrote to Gertrude and Alice: "...I shall find my way to your door, and see the doves of your bedroom flutter, and the easy chairs contain us as before, and your portrait seating you above us looks down: uniting past and present to whatever future we have yet to live through-may it be in Paris-although my visa is only via France!..."

"You are all a lost generation"
